💡 Springwell vs Pelican: An Overview

If you’re looking for a water softening solution for your home, you’ve more than likely heard of Springwell and Pentair Pelican. Springwell and Pelican RO systems are two of the most popular water softeners in the market. The best part is that both are salt less filters. Springwell Futuresoft filter consists of a single tank, while Pelican Natursoft filter comes in both single and dual filter tanks variation.

Both filtration systems contain carbon filters inside a stainless steel body. These filters are required for the efficient removal of contaminants from water.

Springwell filters can last to 1 million gallons of water. While Pelican do not need a replacement for almost 15 to 20 years. This means that both of these systems offer a lifetime warranty and would be great products to invest in.

Sizes Difference

Springwell comes in only one size. A single SpringWell futuresoft plant can be used for 1 to 3 bathrooms/spaces easily your home’s water pressure won’t drop with use. Futuresoft can effectively eliminate the majority of your hard water issues in your house water filters.

While on the other hand, the Pelican water-softener comes in two different sizes. The larger one can cover almost 4-6 bathrooms/spaces with 16.00 gallons per minute.

🤔 Does the Size of the Filter Matter?

The size of the filter will determine how much water it will hold and how much time after you will need to change it. Its size will also determine its GPM.

For instance, if you want to install a water softener for just 1 to 2 bathrooms/spaces, then a small-sized water-softener will be enough. However, if you want to install a house water filters, then one with a maximum water flow rate of 16GPM would be required at least.

🚦 Performance

Now let’s compare the performance of the two house water filtration systems.

Springwell FutureSoft RO Filter

SpringWell Futuresoft Salt free Water Softener Review

Springwell futuresoft uses the ‘Template Assisted Crystallization’ technique. Even if this filter is used in 3 bathrooms And won’t get affected, thanks to this TAC technology. This filtrate has tremendous capacity and the maintenance is almost nil too, which makes it a great product.

Furthermore, this filter does not require electricity for operation. Springwell water softener promises that the quality of softened water will be even better than bottled water. Thanks to its latest pe-filter installment, this filter can remove up to 99% of impurities including chlorine.

Pelican NaturSoft RO Filter

Pelican NatureSoft filter uses a technology similar to TAC, which maintains its water flow. It is a home’s water filter and comes in two different sizes. The capacity of this filter is also generous and can hold millions of gallons of water.

Moreover, it is ‘NSF 42 and 61 certified,’ which is a third-party assurance of this filter’s functioning. Just like Springwell filters, this one also does not require electricity for functioning. This filter promises to eliminate 99.6% of contaminants including chlorine and salt based water.

🔧Maintenance

Both whole house filters of these are salt free water softener, which typically require much less maintenance as compared to the salt ones. The pre filters of both of these salt free water softener would be required to change 6-9 months.

Springwell is capable of storing 1M gallons of water. However, if a part gets broken or damaged, then you can get a free replacement and repairing service from the company (only if the damage comes under the warranty guidelines).

The Pelican will need an entire replacement after 15 years. The carbon filter will, however, require renewal after every 5 years.

How do the Systems Work?

Springwell and Pelican share similarities in their method of functioning. They can remove all salts and contaminants from the drinking water except for calcium and magnesium.

Both of these filters use a technique called ‘Template Assisted Crystallization (TAC).’ During this process, the magnesium and calcium salts are crystallized instead of getting filtered.

Since these filtration systems do not remove calcium and magnesium utterly, therefore, they are technically water conditioners, not softeners. Both Pelican and Springwell’s whole house saltless softening systems follow the same process to greatly reduce hard water.

For filtration, the Springwell system uses a softener named ‘FutureSoft’ which contains numerous tiny beads floated and embedded inside the filter. These beads interact with the components and solvents in drinking water and micro-crystallize them. The crystallized particles cannot pass through the filter pores therefore, they sink to the bottom and get separated from the softened water. The unfiltered particles are ejected from the filter afterward.

While the softener that Pelican uses is called ‘NaturSoft.’ However, the Pelican does not give much information about its filtration system, but it is assumed that it is very similar in function to Springwell’s ‘FutureSoft’ system

Springwell can remove 99% of the impurities from drinking water, while Pelican filtrate can only remove 99.6% of these contaminants.
