Product Description

To acknowledge the complete usage of the WS1 & WS4 water system, it is crucial to have a detailed study of its features. The following are some of the significant points that aptly elaborate the functionality of the Springwell Whole House Well Water filtration system.

Components

  • Filtration Tank
  • Electronic Head
  • Hose Clamp
  • Bypass Valve
  • 50-inch Drain Line
  • MNPT Fittings
  • Power Supply

Design

The WS1 & WS4 filtration system occupies a space of up to 2-square feet. If you want to install the filter capaciously, you need to provide it around 3-square feet.

The filter will need to be installed near the main water outlet. If your house has a basement, the water outlet will be present there. But if you don’t have one, then the main pipe will be on the ground floor.

Also, make sure that you install this filter near a drain, as this filter regularly releases discharge. Similarly, a power source or a socket is also required for attaching the electronic head.

If you already have the Springwell water softener, you won’t face difficulty understanding this filter. Its design and work are pretty similar to the water softener.

Performance

Springwell WS1 & WS4 water filtration system is designed to filter out contaminants from the well water supply. Typical filters can only treat the municipal water supply; they are not potent enough to filter harsh contaminants present in the well water.

Therefore, if your home or office’s water supply is from a well, you would need advanced water filtration systems specifically designed for treating well water. The Springwell Whole House Well Water filter is one of those rare water systems which you can entrust for well water treatment.

The Well water supply has a higher contaminant level than the regular water supply. The concentration of impurities like sulfur, manganese, and iron (ferric and ferrous) is much higher in the well water supply.

A more robust and powerful filtration system is required to filter out these contaminants. The Springwell WS1 & WS4 filter consists of carbon pre-filter sediment that can efficiently remove these well water toxicities.

However, there is a specified limit up to which the WS1 & WS4 filter can operate and remove contaminants. If the contaminant level accelerates above this limit,  then the filter might not be able to function aptly, and the increased quantity of contaminants may remain in the water.

Contaminant levels

The following are contaminant levels that the SSpringwell Whole House Well Water filtration system can handle.

  • The limit for sulfur and hydrogen sulfide is 8ppm.
  • The limit for manganese is 1ppm.
  • The filtration level for ferrous iron (clear) is 7ppm
  • The limit for ferric iron (red) is also 7ppm.

While opting for this WS1 filter, you should get the contaminant level of your water supply checked. If the level exceeds the filtration capacity of WS1, then this water system might not be suitable for your place.

Moreover, if your water supply has been detected as microbiologically unsafe, then a WS1 filter is not the right choice for you. Filters can only remove chunky and dissolved contaminants from water. Microbes, parasites, and bacteria are not treated via typical filtration systems. You will need a ‘UV purification system’ and a filter to treat such water.

Working on the Filter

The WS1 water system works via a 4-stage filtration process. The water is transmitted through multiple routes within the filtration tank to ensure that the contaminants (chunky and dissolved particles) are thoroughly removed from the water.

The following are the four primary stages through which water passes during filtration from the WS1 water system.

Oxidation of Iron, Manganese, and Sulfur

The first stage in the filtration process of the WS1 water system is the oxidation of well water contaminants, i.e., iron, manganese, and sulfur. The water enters the air cavity of the filter called the ‘Air Injection System,’ where this oxidation process takes place.

Once the airflow oxidizes these catalysts from the cavity, they become eligible for getting oxidized in the following process. Oxidation of the contaminants is necessary for their removal via the WS1 system. Without getting oxidized, the filtration bed might not be able to separate the dissolved toxicities from the water.

 Greensand Bed

In the next step, the water containing oxidized contaminants passes through the ‘Greensand Bed.’ It is a filtration bed responsible for removing oxidized contaminants from the water.

The greensand bed functions by trapping the oxidized particles from the water. These entrapped particles are then transferred to the ejection system before finally being removed.

Besides that, the greensand bed can also capture unoxidized contaminants to a small extent. Sometimes, tiny particles of contaminants can escape the airflow and thus can remain unoxidized.

These unoxidized particles are then passed onto the greens and bed. This bed is capable of capturing and oxidizing these particles. Therefore, the greensand bed can also perform oxidation to a meager extent besides removing oxidized contaminants.

In fact, it would not be wrong to say that the greensand bed performs the central function of the WS1 water filtration system. All the other stages involved in the filtration aid the greensand bed in the filtration process.

Backwashing and Air System Reset

After that, the greensand bed has oxidized escaped particles and removed them subsequently; the system backwashes the greensand bed with pressurized airflow. Then the air pocket undergoes refurbishing and resets to ensure sufficient oxygen is present in the tank.

Backwashing is done once a week, while this resetting of the air pocket system takes place every day. Resetting the system ensures no oxidized contaminants are left entrapped in the greensand bed.

If the system is not refurbished, then these tiny particles can immaculate and turn into massive deposits within the bed. This condition ultimately leads to decreasing the overall functionality of the filter.

Delivery of Filtered Water

The filtration process of the WS1 system is limited till step three. In the fourth step, filtered water is delivered to the place’s taps, faucets, and pipes.

The filtration system is not directly connected to the faucets and taps. Instead, the WS1 filter connects with the internal plumbing of the place. The internal plumbing then delivers the filtered water to the outlets.

Flow Rate:

The water pressure created by the system tells a lot about the filter’s quality and functionality. Usually, in optimal filtration, the flow rate is compromised. But with the WS1 water filter, there is no such thing.

The Springwell company has falsified all such norms and maintains excellent filtration quality with an unmatchable flow rate. Usually, the average flow rate for a 3+ bathroom filter is around 6GPM. But, a Springwell WS1 filter of the same size provides a 12GPM flow rate. The larger-sized WS1 filter can even provide a flow rate of up to 20GPM.

Installation:

The installation of this water filtration system is not that difficult. People having experience in DIYs can easily install it. However, you will require the right tools to install the filter. Using inappropriate tools can consequently lead to damaging the filter.

Springwell also offers a DIY installation kit that contains all the necessary tools for installing the WS1 filter. Besides installation, this kit also includes all essential components required for maintaining the filter.

The installation kit does not come for free with the filter. You will need to purchase it separately. However, if you don’t have experience in DIY installations, it is better to hire a plumber to do this task.

Though installing a WS1 filter is pretty easy, its components are pretty sensitive, and even minimal mishandling can potentially damage the filter. If you don’t have any expertise, then it is better not to risk the product’s functionality and call for a professional person.

Maintenance and Warranty

About every 6-9 months, you will need to change the sediment pre-filter. The filter might not work optimally if you don’t change it regularly. Thus, to ensure the precise working of this filter, it is better to maintain the filter.

Other than regular changing of the pre-filter, no other maintenance procedures are required for this filter. The WS1 filtration system is secured with a six-month money-back guarantee.

If you find your filter faulty or don’t like it during this given tenure, you can return it and get your amount back.

Regarding the warranty filter, it would not be wrong to say that the WS1 has one of the most impressive and long-lasting warranties, i.e., up to 18 to 25 years.

The Springwell company classifies it as a filter with a ‘LIFETIME WARRANTY.’ All you will be required to do is maintain the filter correctly, and this filter will prove to be a solid lifelong investment.
