General Electric GXWH04F Review Whole-House Filtration System

Product Overview

General Electric GXWH04F Review

With proper filters installed (not included with the unit), the GXWH04F will filter out sand, soil, rust, chlorine taste, and odor. The color of the unit is white on white so it’s very clean looking compared to some home water filtration systems that are blue and black. Plumbing connections are ¾” to help maintain water flow which maxes out at 12 gallons per minute (45 liters/minute). Decrease in water pressure only seems to be an issue when the filter is past due for a replacement. A convenient little feature of this model is that it has a little light to remind you when it’s time to change the filter – clever! A mounting bracket and wrench to install/remove the housing is included but does not include an actual filter cartridge or pipe fittings.

Measurements: 5” x 5” x 12.5” ; 2.5 lbs / 12.7 cm x 12.7 cm x 31.75 cm ; 1.1 kg

General Electric GXWH04F Review

Similar to the Aqua Filter Plus, The GE GXWH04F whole home water filter system doesn’t come with a filter so we can’t review how well it performs but can speak of the production quality and design of the unit. Compared to most other whole house filter systems the GE has a nice, clean, white modern appearance. It almost looks like an appliance rather than a “plumbing contraption”. Since this unit will not work at the point of use (a.k.a. under your sink) and can only be used at the point of entry of your water supply, we’re not sure how much the appearance of it really matters since that’s usually a basement or somewhere out of sight, but it is a nice touch when you first open the packaging.

It has a 5” diameter so it fits nicely in narrow spaces and allows multiple units to line up side by side without becoming too overcrowded.

The price of this whole home water filter is affordable but, along with purchasing a filter separately, you’ll also be set back a few extra dollars to purchase fittings separately as they’re not included either. These SharkBite fittings will do the trick and won’t add too much to the overall cost.

Once everything is in place and set up, this gorgeous-looking filter works like a charm. And although it doesn’t include fittings or a filter in the initial purchase, it is still a very wallet-friendly solution. Plus, you buy filters on an ongoing basis to replace the dirty ones so it’s not a big deal that you don’t get a “free” one with the initial purchase. In fact, often times the filter cartridge that’s included with other models isn’t necessarily suited for your particular water supply or personal filtration need anyway so it ends up being tossed out.

The affordable price also allows for a 2 or 3-stage filtration setup, for your customization, which will cost much less than some 2-stage or 3-stage single units.
